What we know:The first recorded observation was in 1835 where it was originally found in lake ontario. Later, lampreys were also found in Lake Eerie in 1921. They have been around for a very long time, but that's just the first sighting of them humans have seen of them that is on record.

Sea lampreys currently reside in the great lakes, preying on the other animals in the surrounding areas. Right now they are classified as a prohibited invasive species, meaning it's illegal to possess, import, purchase, transport, or introduce this species unless under a permit for disposal, control, research or education.
